WAYS TO SAVE MONEY
HOOK : LEARN HOW TO SAVE MONEY TO BE USED WHEN IN NEED
BACKGROUND INFORMATION :
Since we are now in university, we tend to spend money on unnecessary things such as junk food and many others. Further more, we trouble our parents to deposit money into our bank accounts for our use. Cafes in the university are charging the food for a high price. Plus, the range of food price differs everyday eventhough we take the same food frequently. Students also prefer going out to eat than eating in the campus unless they have no choice. Students need to fork out money to rent cars to go out to eat or to go outing with friends. For instance we can try saving money by spending under RM 20 during the weekends. We have to learn many ways to do it such as reduce number of outings, limit money spent on a daily basis and eat moderately.
- Reduce number of outings.
• Go out with friends twice a month
• Share the expenses with friends
• Spend less money and more quality time with friends
• Find rented cars which are cheaper
- Limit money spent on a daily basis
• Keep only about RM 100 in the purse
• Try not to overspend and stay within the budget
• Control yourself from buying unhealthy food
• Pamper yourself once in a while is fine
- Eat moderately
• Have a balanced diet
• Don’t skip meals
• Try different types of food
• Don’t spend to much money on food and drinks
CONCLUSION :
We can start off saving money by trying to spend under RM 20 during the weekends. This is because during weekdays we have limited time to spend our money unlike on the weekends. Learning ways like eating moderately, reduce number of outings and limiting money spent on a daily basis can help save money so that we can use them when in need or emergency such as semester fee or book fee.

The Greatest Day In My Life
The day that I became President of the Scouts Movement proved to be the greatest day of my life. It started like any other ordinary day but with the exception of the air of anticipation around the school. All the Form Four and Form Five students were all geared up for the General Meeting to choose the new high and executive committee members for the clubs and societies in our school. After the weekly assembly was over, I gathered with the other scouts members in the school canteen. The advisory teacher commenced the start of the meeting and gave a few names that he deemed appropriate for the position of President. Given my reputation as an active member of the organization, I was not surprised when the teacher called out my name. My oppositions were all very experienced and have been in camps with me throughout my scouting years.Nervousnes managed to creep into my feelings as the voting was carried out as me and my oppositions were taken away to a secluded place away from the school canteen. After what have been a long while, we were asked to go back to the canteen and a big surprise awaited me as I was announced as the new President of The Scouts Movement for the 2009/2010 session. I gave a brief speech to the members on how we must increase our reputation among the uniformed bodies in the school. Deep inside my heart, I felt joy and happiness because it was my dream since Form One to be in this position. The years of taking orders were over and a new reign has begun.
Spend wisely
Hook :
Learning how to spend money wisely is essential for students in UTP
Background information :
Not only because the food here are extremely expensive, the freedom we gain when we are no longer being monitor by our parents makes us spent more money on unnecessary elements. The best example would be entertainment. When I first started university, I have problem in managing my money usage and adapt to the lifestyle here. But I am determined to improve my situation. So I decided to put it up into a test by enjoying one of the weekend for under RM 20 only. To achieve this goal, I should purchase the necessity only, eat wisely and instead of going for entertainment, I choose to exercise.
(think twice/necessity)
• Ask around, compare the price
• Buy items which are cheaper/second-hand, but comes with quality
• Wait for discount/fair
• Borrow/rent
• Eg : textbooks, lecture notes, lab coat, food
• Use facilities provided
(eat wisely)
• 3 meals will do (no tea nor supper) or 2 out 1 in
• Two dishes a time, don’t take excess (not finish = waste food + money)
(participate in beneficial activities)
• No shopping/movie/clubbing
• Take part in activities organized in university
• Eg : car wash, collect recyclable items
Conclusion :
To be able to enjoy the weekend for under RM 20 only, it is very important for me to think twice before going for any purchase, eat accordingly, and participate in activities which are beneficial to me. Having these skills will ensure me to be a better person in managing my spending.
