Learning how to spend money wisely is essential for students in UTP

Background information :
Not only because the food here are extremely expensive, the freedom we gain when we are no longer being monitor by our parents makes us spent more money on unnecessary elements. The best example would be entertainment. When I first started university, I have problem in managing my money usage and adapt to the lifestyle here. But I am determined to improve my situation. So I decided to put it up into a test by enjoying one of the weekend for under RM 20 only. To achieve this goal, I should purchase the necessity only, eat wisely and instead of going for entertainment, I choose to exercise.

(think twice/necessity)
• Ask around, compare the price
• Buy items which are cheaper/second-hand, but comes with quality
• Wait for discount/fair
• Borrow/rent
• Eg : textbooks, lecture notes, lab coat, food
• Use facilities provided

(eat wisely)
• 3 meals will do (no tea nor supper) or 2 out 1 in
• Two dishes a time, don’t take excess (not finish = waste food + money)

(participate in beneficial activities)
• No shopping/movie/clubbing
• Take part in activities organized in university
• Eg : car wash, collect recyclable items

Conclusion :
To be able to enjoy the weekend for under RM 20 only, it is very important for me to think twice before going for any purchase, eat accordingly, and participate in activities which are beneficial to me. Having these skills will ensure me to be a better person in managing my spending.
